Music

Music is an important part of the arts curriculum offering opportunities for creativity and expression. We stock a range of instruments for use by the pupils including a range of electric and acoustic guitars, bass guitars, ukuleles, keyboards, recorders, drum kits and tuned and unturned percussion from around the world.  The curriculum is varied and wide reaching covering the fundamentals of music (dynamics, pitch etc), different genres and styles and music from different countries, cultures and times. Pupils may be looking at Mozart one term and Motown the next. We have extra-curricular music and choir clubs for those wishing to explore the area further.  For those wishing to pursue instrumental skills to higher levels we offer one-to-one peripatetic lessons in singing, piano, brass (trumpet/trombone), guitar/bass guitar and drum kit. The peripatetic pupils also present regular concerts to showcase their work.

We present both a primary and secondary show at Christmas and in the summer with performance opportunities for acting and singing both ensemble and solo. These are always supported with live musicians drawn from the professional community. One year we had the trumpeter from Mumford and Sons, the next our drummer was from a West End show. These interactions prove inspiring and engaging for the pupils.  We provide workshop and visits from a variety of music and performance groups and arrange concert and theatre visits.

Music is part of the Creative Arts ELC which is a Year 10/11 option. Pupils cover Solo and Ensemble Performance and Composition.
