Transdisciplinary Working
Blossom House School is a specialist school where all the professionals,(Teachers, Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists,Physiotherapists, Creative Arts Therapists, SpLD specialists, etc.) work as aTransdisciplinary Team. The uniqueway the school is set up, different professionals are employed and the timetable is arranged, all enable this in a way that is not often possible in other special schools where professionals work as a Multidisciplinary Team instead.
What Is Transdisciplinary Working?
Transdisciplinary working means that differentprofessionals work together as one team. They share roles, learnfrom each other, and often blend their skills to supportyour child in a more holistic way.
Key Features:
- Set shared goals and targets: Supporting your child’s development.
- Blended roles: Professionals incorporate activities and strategies into their sessions/lessons to support a child’s development in areas other than their own area of expertise and carry out parts of each other's work, with support and training.
- Joint planning: Everyone works together to create and deliver the plan
How Is That Different from Multidisciplinary Working?
Multidisciplinary working also involvesdifferent professionals, but they work more separately. Each persondoes their own part and then shares information with the others.
Key Features:
- Separate roles: Each professional sticks to their own area.
- Individual plans: Each person may have their own goals and strategies.
- Less overlap: Professionals meet to discuss progress but don’t usually share tasks.
Why Transdisciplinary Working Helps in Special Schools
- Children often need support in many areas at once.
- It helps create a consistent approach across the school day.
- Your child benefits from a team that works as one, not just alongside each other.
