Admissions Criteria

The primary need of pupils at Blossom House is in the area of speech, language and communication. Many of our pupils have additional co-occurring needs/diagnoses.
Please note, Blossom House School includes several different provisions and each has its own remit and admissions criteria. Please refer to the Blossom House Admissions Criteria policy

Admissions Process

Step 1 - Initial Enquiry
Usually, the initial enquiry is made by parents (either by phone or email). Occasionally referrals come from Local Authorities, whether on the parents’ or their own behalf.

Step 2 - Paperwork
Blossom House admissions team will then read the paperwork supplied for your child (usually EHCP and supporting reports such as Speech and Language Therapy Reports, Occupational Therapy Reports and Educational Psychology reports). A child does not need to have an EHCP Education Health Care Plan before being assessed by the school; however parents should be aware that the EHCP process can be protracted and complicated. Some year groups become very oversubscribed & places can only be held open for six months.

Once the paperwork has been read, the admissions team will then be able to advise on whether an initial assessment is an appropriate next step.

Step 3 - Initial Assessments
The Initial Assessments take approximately 45 minutes, and are an opportunity for parents to tour the school and discuss your child’s needs with a senior member of staff. Meanwhile, one of our Speech and Language Therapists spends time with your child. This is an informal session and not a formal assessment. From this, it will usually be possible to tell whether we might be the right provision, and if this is the case, we will invite the child back for a more in-depth assessment.

Step 4 - School Trial Assessment
Your child will be invited to spend time at Blossom House School with his/her age group. The visit will involve observations on how they get on within different context and may also involve a formalised assessment. The length of the visit will depend on the age of the child as follows:

More detailed information can be found in our admissions policy here: POLICY Additionally, the admissions pathway also provides more detail regarding the admissions process and timeframes involved here: PATHWAY

Please don’t hesitate to ring the school for more information or to discuss your child with our admissions team.
‍Following the trial, our teams will make a decision as to whether school can meet your child’s needs. We will be in touch within 2 weeks, and an outcome letter will be sent via email. If you would like a full report form the school trial assessment, the fee is £750. Please note, there is an administrative charge of £250 if your child is offered a place at the school and funding is agreed but you chose not to accept the pace.
